ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS

L-3 Power Paragon products are largely individualized solutions to difficult problems. PPI is continuously developing new, innovative approaches to power delivery and power protection. PPI offers a full line of engineering analysis and design services including power engineering and testing, simulation tools/composite modeling and software design/programming.

L-3 Power Paragon’s technical and production expertise is the result of a long history working in power electronics technology. L-3 Power Paragon’s heritage can be traced back to such innovators as the ALS Corporation and Teledyne-INET who developed the first solid-state frequency converter for naval applications and the MK 84, the first solid-state frequency converter designed specifically to support the Aegis Weapon System.

L-3 Power Paragon maintains an experienced engineering development staff dedicated to advancing the technological edge of power conversion and distribution products. This staff consists of over 60 professional-level engineers and technicians from which a project team is designated and from which various specialties are called as needed. The knowledge and expertise represented in this staff covers the range of advanced technologies required to design and support power equipment from 100 watts to several megawatts and at frequencies from DC to 50 kHz. Full-scale development for new products, power control systems, and Research and Development (R&D) is routinely carried out. Assisting the engineers are over 20 technical support personnel.

Full scale development for new products, power control systems, and Research and Development are standard operations within engineering. Power design technology is the lifeblood of L-3 Power Paragon engineering.

L-3 Power Paragon engineering utilizes state-of-the-art tools and technology to support the engineering development process. Extensive design and simulation using PSpice and Matlab models is performed on all electrical designs to improve design confidence, reduce technical risks and meet customer requirements. Integrated 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems are used to design and document all new products. Thermal analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) airflow analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) stress analysis is performed directly on the 3-D CAD/CAE models to analyze the design, validate it against the customer requirements and reduce the engineering development cycle time. These engineering practices lead to a smooth transition from product design to prototype development and finally into production unit build.
