L-3 Communications Electronic Design (EDI), a Louisiana-based business dedicated to the supply of quality electronic and electromechanical systems to commercial and government industries, was founded in 1979. L-3 EDI is presently under contract with the U.S. government both as a prime contractor and as a subcontractor. L-3 EDI is ISO 9001-certified.

As part of Power & Control Systems Group, L-3 Communications Electronic Design (EDI) is able to utilize the complete resources of SPD and its subsidiaries:

  • SPD Electrical Systems — a leader in circuit-breaker design, engineering, manufacturing and testing for ruggedized applications

  • SPD Switchgear — a provider of electrical power control and distribution products for commercial, industrial and military applications

  • Power Paragon — specializing in power-conversion technology and advanced power systems for mission-critical applications

  • Henschel — specializing in design, engineering, manufacturing and integration of machinery control, monitoring and communication systems

  • PacOrd — offering multifaceted Department of Defense services, installation and integration of shipboard combat systems worldwide

In 1998, Power & Control Systems Group was acquired by L-3 Communications, a leading merchant supplier to aerospace, military and commercial primes. Based in New York, L-3 Communications serves the Department of Defense, select U.S. government intelligence agencies, aerospace and defense prime contractors and commercial telecommunication and cellular customers.

Profile

L-3 Communications Electronic Design (EDI) manufactures analog, digital and microprocessor-based control and monitoring systems, training and simulation systems and related products for ocean-going ships and land-based installations. Since its inception in 1979, L-3 EDI has been dedicated to the supply of quality electronics and electromechanical systems to commercial and government industries. The company's utilization of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology ensures high-performance systems at the lowest possible cost.

L-3 EDI systems meet all military requirements including high-impact shock, vibration and environmental specifications. These systems also meet U.S. Coast Guard and American Bureau of Shipping requirements. L-3 EDI is presently under contract with the U.S. government, both as a prime contractor and as a subcontractor. The company is ISO 9001-certified, with a comprehensive Quality Assurance Program in place. The CAGE code of L-3 EDI is 8Z495.

L-3 EDI also designs, manufactures and tests printed circuit (PC) modules that meet the requirements for both military and commercial applications. Planning, multistage inspection, component-lead forming, random auditing and visual aids are integral operations for L-3 EDI PC board assembly programs. All PC assemblies are inspected and functionally tested upon completion and processed for acceptance testing.

L-3 EDI is located in the New Orleans, Louisiana metropolitan area. The company's staff is comprised of certified hardware and software engineers, draftspersons, program managers and numerous production and field-service personnel. All staff members are automation-system professionals, averaging more than 25 years of experience in control and monitoring systems.

L-3 EDI customers include: Litton Avondale Industries; Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co., Inc.; Bird-Johnson Company; Bollinger Shipyards, Inc.; Chand Corporation; Coltec Industries; FMS Corporation; Litton Ingalls Ship building; Halter Marine Group; and a host of U.S. government agencies including Navy Inventory Control Point, Defense Electrical Supply Center, Textron Marine, Lockheed Martin, Atlantic Marine and the U.S. Air Force. L-3 EDI has been awarded a commendation by Defense Supply Center Richmond for quality, on-time delivery.

L-3 EDI is a business unit of parent companies L-3 Communications and Power & Control Systems Group. This association of the world's leading military and commercial systems companies offers L-3 EDI a broad view of customers' current needs, insight into their future needs and the ability to offer access to the latest technologies in the field.
